Yogurt Beach Tropical Mural, Covers all walls, 2013
Yogurt Beach Yogurt Shop, Plainville, Massachusetts
by Charles C. Clear III and Bonnie Lee Turner
Tropical Mural at Yogurt Beach! Yogurt Beach is a fun, beach-themed yogurt shop in Plainville, Massachusetts.
In December of 2013, I painted this scenic Mural in their store. It features a Caribbean beach scene, with calm turquoise water, a gentle surf lapping against the light sandy shore, lush green islands, palm trees, seagulls, a sailboat, and foliage springing up from behind the booths.
The Mural stretches across two walls – a large 12’6″ wall on the south side of the store, a 5’7″ wall which leads to a window, and a 4′ wall that is just to the left of the entrance. I chose to paint the palm tree with the big palm fronds in the corner as a way to soften the harsh angle, unify the two walls, and create a nice 3D effect.
I also painted clouds on every wall of this large store. With 20′ ceilings and walls that measure nearly 50′ feet across, it was a fairly big space to fill. I worked off a small hydraulic lift and finished the project in about a week. The painted clouds have a dreamy, calming, magical feel, and from what I hear they’ve been very well received by the customers and staff of Yogurt Beach.
